Eminönü, at the southern end of the Galata Bridge, is where the Şehir Hatları public ferry starts its Long Bosphorus Tour. Beşiktaş and Ortaköy have piers too, but in this catalog they appear as sights along the route more than as boarding points. One exception: the private yacht of Istanbul Private Bosphorus Yacht Tour w Swimming or Guide Option meets next to Kabataş Pier, but its 6-hour swimming option starts from the River Yat marina in Kuruçeşme, according to its listing. The practical rule: check the pier before you plan the rest of the day, not on the way.

From Sultanahmet to the Bosphorus piers on the T1 tram

The T1 tram is the backbone for anyone staying in the old city. It runs through Sultanahmet, drops down to Sirkeci and Eminönü, crosses the Galata Bridge to Karaköy and then follows the shore to Kabataş, where the line ends. That means Eminönü, Karaköy and Kabataş are all on one line with no change. You pay with an Istanbulkart at the gate. The catch is timing. Sunset departures overlap with the evening rush, and the T1 can be packed at that hour. Leave with a margin of at least half an hour beyond what the map suggests, because a yacht on a sunset schedule will not hold the boat for one late passenger.

From Taksim to the Bosphorus piers on the F1 funicular

From Taksim Square, the F1 underground funicular runs straight down the hill to Kabataş. It has two stations, Taksim and Kabataş, according to Metro İstanbul (metro.istanbul, checked on 21 Sep 2026), and at the bottom you come out next to the T1 tram stop and the waterfront. For a cruise that boards at Kabataş, this is the most predictable route from the Taksim and Beyoğlu hotels.

If your boat leaves from Karaköy instead, take the funicular down and ride the T1 three stops back toward the old city, or walk downhill through Galata. A taxi from Taksim looks shorter on the map, but the coast road past Dolmabahçe is the one that jams at sunset.

From Istanbul Airport to a Bosphorus cruise on arrival day

Istanbul Airport (IST) sits far north of the centre on the European side, and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is on the Asian side. From IST, the public option we checked is the Havaist airport bus, which runs to central districts and lists a Sultanahmet line, where you can switch to the T1 tram to Kabataş. Our advice is not to book a sunset cruise for the evening you land. Passport control, bags and the drive into town add up, and a missed departure is usually a lost ticket.
